Here is another poem I wrote for young children... anything here 'ring a bell'?
Martha
MONSTERS
There once was a time
When I used to think
That monsters lived
In the kitchen sink.
I thought that
They were everywhere,
Ready to pounce and
Give me a scare.
I never went upstairs alone
In case the Upstairs Monster
Was home.
My mother thought
It was really funny.
She kidded me and
Tickled my tummy.
"I know a couple of monsters, too,"
She said, "and one of them is you!"
"Not so," said I
With great conviction
As I set out
On a monster expedition
Of my room,
Flashlight in hand and
An expectation that
A monster might land
At the foot of my bed
Or on my pillow, bellowing,
"Come on in, little fellow!"
But however many
Times I looked,
I never saw a monster.
I kept myself
On tender hooks,
For two months or
Even longer!
I carefully rounded
Every corner,
Looking this way
And that.
Nothing! Never! Nowhere!
The closest that
I ever came
Was the time I mistook
My dog by the name
Of Tim
For something rather
Large and grim.
Those days are over!
I'm older now
And in control.
My father even says
I'm bold!
Monsters are a
Thing of the past.
Now all that worried me ...
Are bats!

Not a monster! Just a sleepy kangaroo.
