ALMOST TWO

Page history last edited by martha burnett 1 yr ago

Dear Reader,

On this page you will find a poem I wrote a while ago when my younger daughter was "almost two". I was inspired by all the things she could do.

The drawings are by my older daughter.

Martha

 ALMOST TWO

Almost two!

Well look at you.

And look at all of you

That's two:

Two arms, two legs

Two ears, two eyes,

Two hand, two feet,

Two knees, two thighs.

I'll bet there's lots

That you can do,

Now that you are

Almost two.

I'll tell you

A thing or two

And you can tell me

What is true.

Do you like

To eat ice cream?

And carrot sticks

And tangerines?

Do you like

To put your hands

Into mud

And dirt and sand?

It is true

That just like me,

you sometimes like

to watch tv?

And do you have

A favorite song

You dance to

While you sing along?

I know you know

A cow goes "MOO",

And what a pigeon

Says is "COO"...

That rabbits grow

To ten feet two?

Just a joke!

I'm kidding you!

Let's give this another try.

A duck says "QUACK".

Do you know why?

Because it's always wet,

Not dry!

So next time that

You're in the bath,

Quack, and watch your

Daddy laugh.

Hold on a sec,

I'm not yet through

Asking you

What you can do.

What do you do on a rainy day,

When you can't go out to play?

Do you take out all your toys,

Making lots and lots of noise?

Do you run from room to room,

Falling down and going BOOM?

Do you play at peek-a-boo

And say to Mummy, "I see you!!"?

When at last

The sky is light,

And the sun

Is shining bright,

Is it time to go outside?

To the park, the swings,

The slide?

Do you walk or do you like

To get there on a little bike?

When you're tired,

Do you say,

"Uppy, uppy, please today"?

Or do you have a stroller still,

To get you up

That mighty hill?

I just love the park,

Don't you?

There are so many things to do,

Like petting pups

And climbing rocks

And trying to take off my socks

So I can put my feet right in

The pond where

All the fishies swim.

But my, oh my

Look at the time.

It's time to

Finish up this rhyme!

And now that I am

Nearly through,

I can't wait to say:

YOU'RE TWO!

THE END
